Energy management in accordance with ISO 50001
Intelligent use of energy or environmental management.Intelligent use of energy or environmental management.
The new German Energy Efficiency Act (EnEfG) has been in force since 2024. The law sets targets for reducing energy consumption. Around 12,400 companies are affected by the obligation to introduce an environmental or energy management system in accordance with EMAS or ISO 50001.
In addition to the legal obligation, there are a lot of good reasons to introduce energy management:
- The legal protection of benefits for manufacturing companies.
- Improving energy efficiency and thus reducing energy costs.
- Compliance with sustainability commitments and corporate principles.
- The reduction of CO2 emissions and safeguarding of competitiveness.
In any case, an energy management system (EnMS) in accordance with ISO 50001 ensures the achievement of the relevant targets as well as ongoing methodical monitoring and adaptation of energy-relevant systems and processes to changing requirements. In addition, the implementation of improvement measures within the framework of an energy management system usually leads to measurable energy consumption reductions and cost savings. And that is definitely another good reason for an EnMS.
